Series 4

In the fourth series of the Microbiome Matters podcast, we talk to experts Kirsten Jackson RD, Dr Anthony Hobson, Cristian Costas Battle RD and Talia Cecchele RD about health conditions linked to the gut and microbiota, including functional gut disorders and IBS, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, coeliac disease and eating disorders. Our podcasters are all experts in their fields and share with us their explanation of how to recognise conditions and their suggestions for management.

Health Conditions Linked to the Gut and Gut Microbiota

Episode 1: Functional Gut Disorders and IBS

In episode 1, we are joined by Kirsten Jackson, the founder of ‘The Food Treatment Clinic’ which is an online clinic providing MDT services for people with IBS. Kirsten has previously worked as the lead dietitian for Kings College Hospital in Dubai and was part of the team which developed the first British healthcare facility in the Middle East. Kirsten is also an official media spokesperson for The British Dietetic Association and an expert advisor to The IBS Network In this episode, Kirsten will be speaking to us about functional gut disorders, IBS and its links with the gut microbiota.

Episode 2: Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth

In episode 2, we are joined by Dr Anthony Hobson, a clinical GI scientist and Chair of the Association of Gastrointestinal Physiologist section of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is the Clinical Director of The Functional Gut Clinic which provides GI physiology services around the UK in both the private and NHS sectors. He has published widely in the field and in recent years this has included a special interest in Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) which is what he’ll be talking to us about in this episode.

Episode 3: Coeliac Disease

In episode 3, we are joined by Cristian Costas Battle RD, a gastroenterology dietitian specialising in coeliac disease. Cristian currently runs the dietetic-led coeliac service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with the support of gastroenterologists. He also runs coeliac clinics through City Dietitians in private practice. In 2021, he was a double award winner for the national Complete Nutrition awards as Clinical Nutrition Professional Of The Year and The Social Media Personality Of The Year. He will be talking to us about coeliac disease and its effects on the gut and gut microbiota.

Episode 4: Gut Health and Eating Disorders

We are joined by Talia Cecchele RD, a UK registered, specialist eating disorder dietitian who’ll be chatting with us about the links between eating disorders and gut health. She is the founder of Talia Cecchele Nutrition and runs a successful online clinic, leading a team of specialist dietitians to support people to recover from their eating disorders, disordered eating and gut health issues. Talia is passionate about bringing balance back to nutrition and helping people to recognise that perfect diets don’t exist.
