Probiotics, stress & upper respiratory tract infections

In 1995, it was estimated that upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) were the reason for 772 of every 10,000 patient visits in the UK. GPs sometimes prescribe antibiotics for URTIs, even though these infections are usually viral in nature and there is little evidence of antibiotic benefit.

This issue explores the potential role of probiotics in reduction of URTI symptoms, changes in stress markers, and highlights key research papers.
